Go Math! Grade 2, Chapter 7: Money and Time
In this unit, your child counts money and tells time. They find the value of mixed coins and dollar bills, write amounts with ¢ and $, and solve money problems. They tell time to the nearest five minutes on clocks with hands and on digital clocks, using a.m. and p.m. Next comes measuring length in inches, feet, and yards.

Question 1 of 3
The hour hand is on the 8 and the minute hand is on the 12. What is the time?
- 12:40
- 8:00
- 8:12
How you can help
- Hand your child a few coins and ask them to make 50 cents in two different ways, like two quarters or five dimes.
- Ask your child to read a clock with hands when a show starts and ends, and to say how they counted the minutes.
- Play store with price tags up to a dollar and let your child pay, writing each price with the ¢ sign.
Where kids can get stuck
- Saying a nickel is worth more than a dime because it is bigger.
- Reading the minute hand's number as the minutes, so 6:35 becomes 6:07.
- Writing 75 cents as 75$ or $75, mixing up the two money signs.
