Privacy Policy

Overview

Bobby's Math Club ("we," "us," or "our") is an adaptive math practice app for children in pre-K through 5th grade. We take your family's privacy seriously — especially when it comes to children. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.

Information We Collect

Everything we know about a child comes from their parent, or from the child's practice in the app.

• About you: your name, email address, and login (a password, or Google or Apple sign-in); your zip code; your time zone, detected automatically by your browser, so emails and text messages arrive at the right local hour; your mobile number, if you choose to get text messages; and your email and text settings.
• About your child: the name you give them (a first name, and a last name if you add one), their grade, and their read-aloud and sound settings. In Settings you can also add their pronouns, their school, their teachers' names and email addresses, and notes. All of these are optional. We use pronouns to write about your child correctly in our emails; school, teachers and notes are kept for you, and we never contact a teacher.
• Practice data: answers to math questions, scores, session history, badges, Growth Check results, and progress information used to adapt the learning experience, plus whether your child last practiced on a phone, tablet or computer
• Worksheet photos (optional): photos that a parent takes or chooses of a printed worksheet, so that we can check the answers on it
• Our emails to you: whether an email we sent was opened, which link in it was clicked, and the kind of email app it was read in. We use this to see which emails are helpful.
• How you found us: the website or link that first brought you to Bobby's Math Club in the 30 days before you joined, such as a search, a teacher's link or one of our ads, and the first page you visited. We keep it with your account to see what helps parents find us; the ad's click id and the first page are erased 90 days after you join.
• Demo requests: if you ask for a demo, your email address, so we can send you the link, and when you open and use the demo. We may contact you to ask how it went.
• Messages you send us: what you write to us, including any note you add when you report a problem with a question

How We Use Your Information

• To provide and improve the math practice experience
• To adapt question difficulty to each student's level
• To send progress reports and other communications to parents
• To write our progress emails and practice reminders with the help of AI, from your child's first name and practice results
• To maintain and secure your account
• To find and fix problems with the app and with our questions

Worksheet Photos

A parent can photograph a printed worksheet, or choose a photo of one, so that Bobby's Math Club can check the answers and show the result. The photo is added only when a parent chooses to add it. In the iPhone and Android apps, the camera and the photo library open only at that moment.

We delete each photo 30 days after it was taken; the score and the checked answers stay. You can delete a child's worksheet photos sooner by deleting the child in Settings. Deleting your account removes every photo.

The Free Math Diagnostic

Anyone can use our free diagnostic without an account. You give us your child's first name and grade, and your email. Your child's answers are checked on your device and not sent to us; we receive only the level in each area. If you create an account from the diagnostic, your child's answers and levels move into that account, where they are kept like any practice, and the emails about the diagnostic stop. We use your email to send a summary of the results (and, if you add them, to anyone else you choose) and, unless you join or unsubscribe, two short follow-up notes with ideas to try at home. Postmark delivers these emails.

If you don't join, we delete your child's name, results and your email 90 days after the diagnostic. To stop misuse, we briefly use a scrambled form of your device's internet address, and Cloudflare Turnstile checks for bots. Neither is used to identify you or for ads.

You can also scan a paper placement sheet, with or without an account. You give us your child's first name and your email, and a photo of each side of the sheet. Google's Gemini reads the marks on the photos, you check every answer, and we keep the answers you checked with the results. We delete the photos 30 days after they were taken, and your child's name, answers and results 90 days after the scan unless you join.

SMS / Text Messaging

If you provide your mobile phone number and opt in to text messages, we use it only to send you program-related messages about Bobby's Math Club — such as your child's practice activity, progress updates, and account notifications. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing with subcontractors in support of our services (for example, our SMS delivery provider, Twilio) is permitted. All other use categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. Reply HELP for help, or contact us at legal@bobbysmathclub.com.

Google and Apple Sign-In

If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from your Google account. We do not access your Google contacts, calendar, drive, or any other Google services. We use this information solely to create and manage your Bobby's Math Club account.

If you sign in with Apple, we receive your name and an email address from Apple, which may be a private address Apple forwards to you. We use them only to create and manage your account.

Companies That Help Us Run the Club

We use a small number of companies to run Bobby's Math Club. Each one handles information only to provide that service to us, and we do not sell, rent, or share your information with them or anyone else for advertising.

• Supabase stores your account, your children's profiles and progress, and worksheet and placement sheet photos.
• Google provides the Gemini AI, which checks worksheet and placement sheet photos and the answers on them, and writes hints.
• Anthropic provides the Claude AI, which helps write our progress emails and practice reminders. For an email it receives your child's first name, their pronouns if you added them, their grade and their practice results, and your first name. It never receives your child's last name, school, teachers or notes, or your email address or phone number. When you write to us through the Contact page, it reads your message, and only your message, to give it a short subject line.
• Gmail (from Google) sends the occasional personal note from Bobby, to you and anyone you've invited to follow your child.
• ElevenLabs reads questions, hints and Bobby's cheers aloud in Bobby's voice. It receives only the words being read, and those include your child's first name in cheers such as "Great job, Maya!". It receives nothing else about your child or you.
• Postmark delivers our emails and tells us whether each one was opened and which link was clicked.
• Twilio delivers text messages, if you opt in.
• Vercel hosts our website and counts visits to our public pages and the steps of signing up, so we can see what helps parents. It uses no cookies, makes no recordings, and is never used on your child's practice screens.
• Google Ads: if one of our Google ads brought you here, we keep the ad's click id with your account and report it back to Google only to measure our ads, never with anything about your child.
• Cloudflare checks that the person joining, signing in, resetting a password, finishing the free diagnostic or scanning a placement sheet is a person and not an automated program. It runs only on those pages, never on your child's screens, and sees your browser and device, nothing about your child.
• Sentry tells us when something on our website breaks: what went wrong, and the kind of browser and device. It never receives your name, your email address, your child's name, or your child's answers.

Tools That Keep the Club Working

Three of the services above recognise a browser or device without knowing who is using it: Sentry, to tell us when something breaks; Vercel, to count visits to our public pages; and Cloudflare, to stop automated sign-ups and misuse of the free diagnostic. We use them only to keep Bobby's Math Club working and secure. None of them is ever used to contact you or your child, to build a profile of anyone, or for advertising.

Children's Privacy

Bobby's Math Club is for children in pre-K through 5th grade, under the supervision of a parent or guardian. A parent, guardian or teacher creates every account, never a child. That adult creates every child's profile and adds everything we know about the child. Children use the app only through the profile that adult set up, and we never ask a child to tell us about themselves.

We built these practices with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in mind. You can see, change or delete everything about your child at any time, and you can ask us for a copy of it.

You can also stop us collecting or using your child's information without deleting what we already have. We collect nothing new about a child who isn't practising, and if you write to us we'll turn off every email and text about your child until you tell us to start again.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard cloud infrastructure. We use encryption in transit and at rest to protect your information. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Data Retention

We keep your account, your children's profiles and their practice while your account is open, so a child's levels and badges are there when they come back. Some things have shorter limits:

• Worksheet photos are deleted 30 days after they were taken. A photo still waiting for you to check its answers stays until you check them, then goes.
• Placement sheet photos are deleted 30 days after they were taken.
• Records of the emails and texts we send you: after 12 months we erase the email address or phone number, the subject line or the words of the text, and any link you clicked. We keep the date and the kind of message, so we never send you the same one twice.
• How you found us: the ad's click id and the first page you visited are erased 90 days after you join. The kind of link that brought you stays.
• Backups: anything deleted stays in our daily backups for up to 7 days, then it is gone.

You can delete a child, or your whole account, at any time in Settings. Deleting a child permanently removes their profile, practice history, badges, Growth Check results and worksheet photos. Deleting your account also removes your login, your email and text settings, and every child you added. You may also ask us to do it for you by contacting us.

When you delete a child, we keep a record of each email we sent you about them and whether it was opened, and erase any subject line that named your child. A report you made about a question stays even after you delete your account, with any note you typed, so we can fix the question; ask us and we'll erase the note.

A copy of some of the emails we send you also goes to Bobby's own inbox. Deleting your account doesn't reach those copies; ask us and we'll delete them.

You can ask for a copy of everything we hold about you or your child, and we'll send it within 30 days.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you via email or through the app. Your continued use of Bobby's Math Club after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
