Into Math Kindergarten, Unit 6: Numbers 11 to 20 and Counting to 100
In this unit, your child counts to 100 by ones and by tens, learns to start counting from any number instead of always from 1, and sees teen numbers as ten ones and some more ones. After a unit on subtraction, the numbers grow much bigger here, and flat and solid shapes come next.

Question 1 of 3
What comes next? 10, 20, 30, 40, __
- 60
- 50
- 41
How you can help
- Count by tens on a walk, taking one big step each time you say a ten: 10, 20, 30, up to 100.
- Pick a starting number, like 14, and ask your child to keep counting from there while you clap. Try a new starting number each time.
- Stack 10 large blocks into a tower, then set a few more beside it. Name the teen number together: "Ten and 7 more is 17."
Where kids can get stuck
- Going back to 1 to find the next number, even after being told to start at 6.
- Counting by tens past 90 to "ten-ty" instead of saying one hundred.
- Showing 16 with 1 block and 6 blocks, thinking the 1 means just one thing.
