Reveal Math Grade 2, Unit 9: Money and Time
In this unit, your child learns to count coins and dollars and to tell time. They find the total of quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, solve money story problems, and read clocks to the nearest five minutes using a.m. and p.m. It builds on three-digit subtraction and leads into collecting and graphing data next.

Sample questions to try together
These are real questions from our practice. Tap the speaker to hear one read aloud, or the light bulb for a hint, and talk about the answer together.
Question 1 of 3
The hour hand is on the 8 and the minute hand is on the 12. What is the time?
- 12:40
- 8:00
- 8:12
How you can help
- Ask your child to count the coins in a jar or a pocket, starting with the quarters. Write the total with the ¢ sign when it is under a dollar.
- Set a time for something fun, like a walk at 4:35 p.m., and ask your child to watch the clock and tell you when it is time to go.
- Play store at home with real coins and price tags under a dollar. Your child pays, and you both check the change together.
Where kids can get stuck
- Thinking a nickel is worth more than a dime because it is bigger.
- Reading the hour wrong when the short hand is close to the next number, saying 4:50 for 3:50.
- Saying they eat breakfast at 7:00 p.m., mixing up morning and evening.
