Divide within 100

Dividing with ease lets your child share things out fairly and see how many groups fit, without reaching for counters every time. Quick division facts carry straight into 4th grade, where children divide larger numbers and usually meet remainders for the first time. They also make fractions easier to work with later. At home, it shows up when you split 40 grapes among 5 people, or work out how many 6-packs make 42.

In this video, your child will learn to divide within one hundred using times facts.

The lesson stops at each question for your child's answer.

Three problems, each a little harder

Each problem is worked step by step. Your child will solve the last one before Bobby shows how.

Example 1

24 ÷ 4 = ?

Example 2

56 ÷ 8 = ?

Your child's turn

72 ÷ 9 = ?

The three key steps

  1. 1Think of the times fact.
  2. 2What times this makes that one?
  3. 3Start from a fact you know.

Mistakes to listen for

  • Thinking division works in either order, the way multiplication does, so 3 ÷ 12 and 12 ÷ 3 seem to have the same answer.
  • Counting up by 8s and losing track of the jumps, so 72 ÷ 8 comes out as 8 or 10 instead of 9.
  • Mixing up 0 and 1 in division, saying 6 ÷ 6 is 0 instead of 1.

Questions parents ask

Does my child need an account to watch?

No. You can watch this on any device at any time. If your child would like to practice dividing within 100, and you'd like parent-friendly reports on your child's progress and growth, you can join Bobby's Math Club for unlimited free practice.

What happens when my child answers a question?

A right answer gets a cheer, and the lesson carries on. If your child isn't sure, they can tap "I don't know yet", and Bobby gives the answer and shows another example. Nothing is scored or stored.

Is this the same lesson that's on YouTube?

Yes. Here, the lesson stops at each question and waits for your child to answer. On YouTube, each question stays on screen for a few seconds, and then the lesson plays on.

Where can I learn more?
