Eureka Math² Grade 4, Module 6: Angles, Two-Dimensional Figures, and Measurement

In this unit, your child closes the year with geometry and measurement. They draw lines, rays, and angles; measure angles in degrees with a protractor and find missing ones; sort shapes and find lines of symmetry; and convert units like feet to inches to solve story problems. It follows the fraction operations unit and wraps up the year.

Sample questions to try together

These are real questions from our practice. Tap the speaker to hear one read aloud, or the light bulb for a hint, and talk about the answer together.

Question 1 of 3

Amara buys a 5-pound bag of oranges. How many ounces does the bag weigh?

  • 60 ounces
  • 21 ounces
  • 80 ounces

How you can help

  1. Hunt for angles at home, like a partly open laptop or a pair of scissors. Have your child guess each angle in degrees and compare guesses with someone else.
  2. Fold a square napkin and a sheet of paper every way the edges match. Ask your child to count the folds: the square napkin has 4, the paper rectangle 2.
  3. Measure family members with a tape measure in feet and inches. Ask your child to change each height to inches, then check it on the tape.

Where kids can get stuck

  • Guessing a reading when a ray is too short to reach the scale, instead of drawing it longer.
  • Missing a line of symmetry because a shape is tilted on the page, as if it must stand upright.
  • Calling two sides parallel because they look close, without checking they stay the same distance apart.

Practice makes perfect

Bobby's Math Club has practice problems that adapt to your child’s level, each with a detailed explanation and an easy-to-follow video, so your child can build confidence in these skills one step at a time.

Words your child will hear

angle
The figure made by two rays that share an endpoint.
degree
The unit for measuring angles; a full turn is 360 degrees.
protractor
A half-circle tool marked in degrees, used to measure and draw angles.
parallel lines
Lines that always stay the same distance apart and never meet.
perpendicular lines
Lines that meet or cross to make right angles.
right triangle
A triangle with one right angle.
line of symmetry
A line that folds a shape into two halves that match exactly.
convert
To change a measurement into a different unit, like 3 feet into 36 inches.
conversion table
A two-column table of matching amounts in two units, like 1 foot and 12 inches.

Which math standards does Eureka Math² Grade 4 Module 6 cover?

Eureka Math² Grade 4 Module 6 covers these math standards. Each one links to what it means, sample questions, and teaching strategies.

  • 4.MD.A.1: Change larger units into smaller ones, like 4 feet = 48 inches.
  • 4.MD.A.2: Solve word problems about distance, time, liquids, weight, and money.
  • 4.MD.C.5: Understand angles as turns measured in degrees: a full turn is 360°.
  • 4.MD.C.6: Measure angles in degrees with a protractor.
  • 4.MD.C.7: Add angles together, and find a missing angle.
  • 4.G.A.1: Name rays and angles, and spot parallel and perpendicular lines.
  • 4.G.A.2: Sort shapes by their parallel sides and right angles.
  • 4.G.A.3: Find lines of symmetry, where a shape folds into matching halves.
