Into Math Kindergarten, Unit 2: Numbers 6 to 10
In this unit, your child moves on to the numbers 6 to 10. They count groups of objects, write each numeral, and count out an amount when asked. Building on the numbers 0 to 5 from the last unit, they learn that each number is one more than the one before. Next, they will compare numbers to 10.

Question 1 of 3
What comes next? 10, 20, 30, 40, __
- 60
- 50
- 41
How you can help
- Line up 7 stuffed animals and count them together. Add one more and ask how many there are now, letting your child answer before you count again.
- Write 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 on slips of paper. Pick one, and have your child clap or hop that many times while you count along.
- Put cereal pieces in a circle on a plate. Show your child how to start at one special piece so they know where to stop counting.
Where kids can get stuck
- Counting around a circle of objects and not stopping, because they did not mark where they began.
- Recounting all 7 toys from 1 after one more is added, instead of knowing the new total is 8.
- Mixing up 6 and 9 when reading or writing, because the two numerals look so alike.
