Reveal Math Kindergarten, Unit 4: Compare Numbers to 10

In this unit, your child learns to compare. First they compare groups of objects, by matching them up or counting, to see which has more, fewer, or the same. Then they compare written numbers from 1 to 10, saying which is greater or less. It builds on counting to 10 and leads into the teen numbers next.

Sample questions to try together

These are real questions from our practice. Tap the speaker to hear one read aloud, or the light bulb for a hint, and talk about the answer together.

Question 1 of 3

You and your friend each have 7 stickers. Who has more?

  • You
  • You both have the same
  • Your friend

How you can help

  1. Give each person at the table a different number of crackers. Line them up side by side and ask your child who has more, who has fewer, or whether they are the same.
  2. Make paper number cards from 1 to 10. Each of you picks a card, and your child decides whose number is greater and whose is less.
  3. Compare things you see on a walk: are there more dogs or more bikes? Count both, and use the words more, fewer, and same.

Where kids can get stuck

  • Thinking 4 large toys are more than 6 small ones, because the big ones take up more space.
  • Counting two groups correctly, getting 7 and 9, then picking the wrong group as greater.
  • Saying two groups are the same just because their rows are the same length.

Practice makes perfect

Bobby's Math Club has practice problems that adapt to your child’s level, each with a detailed explanation and an easy-to-follow video, so your child can build confidence in these skills one step at a time.
