Hear every question

Your child can do the math even when the reading is still tricky.

A child who can add 8 and 5 can still get stuck when the question is a sentence. When reading is the hurdle, practice turns into a reading test. Hearing the question first lets your child spend their effort on the math.

Math that sounds like school

  • The question, read aloud with each word lighting up, so they can follow along.
  • Hints and explanations, read aloud too, so a missed question teaches without a paragraph to read.
  • Math said properly. 3/4 is “three fourths,” not “three slash four.” 2 1/2 is “two and one half.”
  • A voice they like. Choose between Bobby (calm and clear) and Mindy (friendly and warm), and set how fast they speak.

Turn it on in a few taps

  1. Open your child's settings.
  2. Turn on Read Questions Aloud.
  3. Pick a voice and a speed.

With it on, each question is read without a tap. With it off, your child can still tap the speaker on any question.

Questions parents ask

Can Bobby's Math Club read questions aloud?

Yes. Every question can be read aloud, and each word lights up as it's spoken. Hints and explanations can be read aloud too.

Is read-aloud on by default?

It's a setting for each child. When it's on, questions are read without a tap. When it's off, your child can tap the speaker on any question.

What voices can my child choose?

Bobby, who is calm and clear, or Mindy, who is friendly and warm. You can also change how fast they speak.

Does it say fractions the way school does?

Yes. A fraction like 3/4 is read as “three fourths,” and on screen it's drawn as one number over another.

Will it help a child who's behind in reading?

It can help the math show through, because your child doesn't have to read every word to answer. It works best alongside reading practice.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

Yes. It works on phones, tablets and computers.
