Skip-count by 5s, 10s, and 100s

Skip-counting is a small skill that opens several doors for your child. Counting by 5s is how they will count nickels and minutes on a clock. In 3rd grade, skip-counting becomes a path into multiplication: 5, 10, 15, 20 is already four groups of 5. And by counting in 100s, your child can reach 1,000 in ten steps instead of a thousand.

In this video, your child will learn to skip-count by fives, tens, and hundreds.

The lesson stops at each question for your child's answer.

Three problems, each a little harder

Each problem is worked step by step. Your child will solve the last one before Bobby shows how.

Example 1

900, 800, 700, ?

Example 2

485, 490, 495, ?

Your child's turn

670, 680, 690, ?

The two key steps

  1. 1Up or back by the same number.
  2. 2Watch for a new hundred!

Mistakes to listen for

  • Counting by 10s only from multiples of 10, so starting at 47 goes 47, 50, 60 instead of 47, 57, 67.
  • Losing the 5s pattern after 100, so 90, 95, 100 is followed by 110 instead of 105.
  • Counting the hands instead of the fingers, so three hands come out as 3 rather than 15 when counting by 5s.

The lesson shows every step, so your child sees why it works. Read our parent's guide to skip-counting by 5s, 10s, and 100s →

Questions parents ask

Does my child need an account to watch?

No. You can watch this on any device at any time. If your child would like to practice skip-counting by 5s, 10s, and 100s, and you'd like parent-friendly reports on your child's progress and growth, you can join Bobby's Math Club for unlimited free practice.

What happens when my child answers a question?

A right answer gets a cheer, and the lesson carries on. If your child isn't sure, they can tap "I don't know yet", and Bobby gives the answer and shows another example. Nothing is scored or stored.

Is this the same lesson that's on YouTube?

Yes. Here, the lesson stops at each question and waits for your child to answer. On YouTube, each question stays on screen for a few seconds, and then the lesson plays on.
