Reveal Math Grade 1, Unit 10: Data
In this unit, your child collects data, sorts it into up to three groups, and shows it with tally marks or a simple graph. They answer how many in all and how many more or fewer. This uses the adding and subtracting from the two-digit unit and leads into measuring length and telling time.

What is my child learning in Unit 10?
- Organizing data into up to three categories, showing it in a tally chart or picture graph, and comparing the groups. Learn more: Sorting, tallying, and reading simple charts
Sample questions to try together
These are real questions from our practice. Tap the speaker to hear one read aloud, or the light bulb for a hint, and talk about the answer together.
Question 1 of 3
The bar graph shows students' favorite fruits. How many students chose bananas as their favorite fruit?
- 4
- 3
- 5
How you can help
- Take a quick family survey, like favorite fruit: apples, bananas, or pears. Help your child tally the votes and read the results.
- Sort a pile of crayons or markers by color into three groups. Ask how many in all and how many more red than blue.
- Count cars, bikes, and people on a walk with tally marks, bundling every five. Back home, ask which group was biggest.
Where kids can get stuck
- Answering with the biggest group's count when asked for the total of all three groups.
- Naming one group's total for how many more questions, instead of finding the difference between two groups.
- Drawing tally marks in one long line, without crossing every fifth, so counting them takes longer and goes wrong.
Practice makes perfect
Bobby's Math Club has practice problems that adapt to your child’s level, each with a detailed explanation and an easy-to-follow video, so your child can build confidence in these skills one step at a time.
