Fractions on a number line
On a number line, your child gets to see that 3/4 is an amount with its own place among other numbers, not only a shaded picture. That makes it easier to compare fractions, to notice that 5/4 is more than 1, and later to place decimals like 0.75 in the very same spot. Rulers and measuring tapes are number lines too, so this idea gets everyday use.
In this video, your child will learn to find fractions on a number line.

The lesson stops at each question for your child's answer.
Three problems, each a little harder
Each problem is worked step by step. Your child will solve the last one before Bobby shows how.

Example 1
What fraction is at the point?

Example 2
What fraction is at the point?

Your child's turn
What fraction is at the point?
The three key steps
- 1Split each whole equally
- 2Bottom: parts in one whole
- 3Top: hops from 0 to the point
Mistakes to listen for
- Counting the tick marks instead of the spaces, so a line from 0 to 1 in fourths, with 5 marks, gets labeled in fifths.
- Drawing unequal spaces on the number line, so the fractions land in the wrong places.
- Thinking fractions only go between 0 and 1, and leaving numbers like 4/4 or 6/4 off the line.

Questions parents ask
Does my child need an account to watch?
No. You can watch this on any device at any time. If your child would like to practice fractions on a number line, and you'd like parent-friendly reports on your child's progress and growth, you can join Bobby's Math Club for unlimited free practice.
What happens when my child answers a question?
A right answer gets a cheer, and the lesson carries on. If your child isn't sure, they can tap "I don't know yet", and Bobby gives the answer and shows another example. Nothing is scored or stored.
Is this the same lesson that's on YouTube?
Yes. Here, the lesson stops at each question and waits for your child to answer. On YouTube, each question stays on screen for a few seconds, and then the lesson plays on.
