Eureka Math Kindergarten, Module 4: Number Pairs Addition and Subtraction to 10
In this unit, your child reaches the heart of kindergarten adding and subtracting. Kindergartners see that any number up to 10 splits into pairs, such as 6 being 4 and 2 or 5 and 1, and use those pairs to solve story problems, write equations, and find the partner that makes 10. It builds on comparing amounts and leads to the teen numbers and counting to 100.

- Play 'make ten' with fingers by holding up a number and letting your child show the fingers that complete 10.
Where kids can get stuck
- Finding one pair for a number, such as 5 and 1 for 6, and stopping as if there were no others.
- Losing a spoon while splitting 8 into two groups, ending with 5 and 2, and not checking the parts still make 8.
- Answering with 10 itself when asked how many more 7 needs to make 10.
