Eureka Math² Grade 3, Module 6: Geometry, Measurement, and Data
In this unit, the year ends with a mix of measuring, shapes, and data. Your child tells time to the minute, weighs things in grams and kilograms, measures liquid in liters, and reads and draws graphs. They sort quadrilaterals by their attributes and find the perimeter of shapes. Fractions from the last unit help with measuring in quarter inches.

What is my child learning in Module 6?
- Reading clocks to the minute and finding how long an event lasts, like a movie from 2:15 to 3:50. Learn more about telling time to the minute: Telling time to the minute · Learn more about working out how many minutes have passed
- Estimating mass and liquid volume with benchmarks, such as a paper clip being about 1 gram and a large water bottle holding about 1 liter. Learn more: Weighing things and measuring liquids
- Reading scaled picture graphs and bar graphs to answer how many more and how many fewer questions. Learn more: Reading picture graphs and bar graphs
- Measuring lengths to the nearest quarter inch and recording them on a line plot. Learn more: Measuring to the nearest quarter inch
- Finding perimeter, the distance around a shape, and a missing side length when the total is known. Learn more: Perimeter: the distance around a shape
- Sorting shapes with 4 sides into groups, and drawing a quadrilateral that is not a rectangle, square, or rhombus. Learn more: Sorting four-sided shapes into families
Sample questions to try together
These are real questions from our practice. Tap the speaker to hear one read aloud, or the light bulb for a hint, and talk about the answer together.
Question 1 of 3
The school play starts 20 minutes after the time shown on the clock. What time does the school play begin?
- 6:25 p.m.
- 7:05 p.m.
- 7:00 p.m.
How you can help
- Ask your child to read an analog clock at random moments, such as breakfast, and say the time to the exact minute.
- Hand your child a paper clip (about 1 gram) and a full 1-liter water bottle (about 1 kilogram), then guess whether other things are closer to grams or kilograms.
- Measure the sides of a placemat with a ruler, write each length on a sketch of it, and ask your child to add all four to find the perimeter.
Where kids can get stuck
- Treating an hour as 100 minutes, so 20 minutes after 2:50 is written 2:70 rather than 3:10.
- Counting each picture on a graph as one when the key says each stands for 2.
- Adding only the two labeled sides of a rectangle when finding the distance around it.
Practice makes perfect
Bobby's Math Club has practice problems that adapt to your child’s level, each with a detailed explanation and an easy-to-follow video, so your child can build confidence in these skills one step at a time.
Words your child will hear
- elapsed time
- The amount of time between a start time and an end time.
- gram
- A unit for light things; a paper clip has a mass of about 1 gram.
- kilogram
- 1,000 grams; a full 1-liter water bottle is about 1 kilogram.
- liter
- A unit for measuring how much liquid fits in a container.
- scale
- The numbers along a graph's side, often counting by 2s, 5s, or 10s.
- line plot
- A graph that shows data with X marks above a number line.
- perimeter
- The distance all the way around the outside of a shape.
- quadrilateral
- Any closed shape with 4 straight sides.
- attribute
- A feature of a shape, such as its number of sides or its kind of corners.

Which math standards does Eureka Math² Grade 3 Module 6 cover?
Eureka Math² Grade 3 Module 6 covers these math standards. Each one links to what it means, sample questions, and teaching strategies.
- 3.MD.A.1: Tell time to the minute, and work out how many minutes have passed.
- 3.MD.A.2: Estimate and measure in grams, kilograms, and liters.
- 3.MD.B.3: Read bar graphs and picture graphs to answer "how many more?"
- 3.MD.B.4: Measure to the nearest 1/2 or 1/4 inch, and show it on a line plot.
- 3.MD.D.8: Find the perimeter, the distance around a shape, or a missing side.
- 3.G.A.1: Sort shapes into groups, like quadrilaterals (four-sided shapes).
For teachers: Unit names and order vary between editions and districts, so your school’s own materials have the exact sequence. Learn how Bobby's Math Club can help your students grow.
