enVision Mathematics Kindergarten, Topic 3: Numbers 6 to 10
In this unit, your child counts past 5, to the numbers 6 through 10. Kindergartners count larger groups carefully, keep track of what they have already counted, write the numerals 6 to 10, and see each number as 5 and some more. Having learned to compare small groups, your child will soon put these new numbers to work comparing amounts all the way up to 10.

- Counting groups of 6 to 10 objects in rows, circles, or scattered piles without losing track of which are done. Learn more: Counting groups of up to 20 things
Sample questions to try together

Question 1 of 3
How many apples do you see?
- 9
- 7
- 8
How you can help
- Show numbers from 6 to 10 on your fingers as 5 and some more, like a full hand and 3 more for 8, and let your child name the total.
- Lay out a circle of 9 stuffed animals or pillows and ask your child to count them, marking the first one so they know where to stop.
- Have your child count out 6 to 10 shoes by the door and write the number on a sticky note to put beside them.
Where kids can get stuck
- Continuing round and round a circle of objects, without marking where they began counting.
- Writing 10 as 01, or writing only the 1, not yet sure how a two-digit number goes.
- Recounting all 7 objects after one more is added, instead of knowing the new total is 8.
Practice makes perfect
Bobby's Math Club has practice problems that adapt to your child’s level, each with a detailed explanation and an easy-to-follow video, so your child can build confidence in these skills one step at a time.
